Ruined rug- what to do?

I had a guy come had clean our kitchen floor grout and reseal it. While he was here he said he could clean our wool rug for £50.

He has ruined the rug. It is a large 3m square loop pile and all the loops are now uneven. Also where one of the stains was, the rug is now bleached. It was over £600 new.

He has also managed to spill some product on our pathway which has soaked into the original stone slabs staining them.

He is chasing me for payment, he has knocked off the price of cleaning the rug after i complained but I'm not sure what my rights are wrt to the ruined rug and to a lesser extent, the pathway.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I would suggest asking him to make good the damage he's done. It's only fair he has a chance to sort things out. If it isn't done to your satisfaction, I would suggest explaining to him in writing, why, and asking for details of his insurance company.

If all else fails, small claims court.

Thanks. After all the f ups I'm loathe to let him back into the house! He can't make the rug any better, it's ruined unfortunately.

My husband thinks we should just pay up and chalk it up to experience. I agree up to a point but every time I look at my ruined rug I just feel Angry !!!
