Wills - Exclusively Wills Ltd or a solicitor

Hope someone can advise. DH and I need to make a will and in it specify legal guardianship for our DD. Should be a fairly straightforward will, both of us leaving everything to each other, if we both die at the same time it all goes to DD, if all three of us die to my DSis and DSis is legal guardian and executor.

We had a leaflet in our NCT magazine for Exclusively Wills Ltd and they're much cheaper than a solicitor. My concern is this is obviously very important and am slightly concerned that you get what you pay for, and would rather pay more than save money but get an inferior service. But if Exclusively Wills are absolutely fine then great!

I would try mumblechum - Marlow Wills - she has an ad on here and lots of satisfied MN customers.

I do offer home visits within travelling distance of Marlow Bucks, but also I speak to clients a lot on Skype, as it is helpful to meet "virtually" face to face if you don't like the idea of giving instructions over the phone.

How much cheaper? Most solicitors will do mirror wills including trusts for under age children for about 250 plus vat. IME, some will writers (and I specifically exclude mumblechum from this) use the opportunity of being sat in your living room to upsell pretty bog standard trusts for vast amounts of money.
Mumblechum has lots of experience, as will your high st solicitor.

Write a legal will here
£50 for single person
£ 80 for a couple.
You can update as often as you like after that, free.
Also state guardianship of your daughter , express funeral wishes

Hmm all well and good but nothing like getting it expertly done.
I work for a will writing company who often deal with re-drafting wills that people have done online which have either not been properly drafted or are not actually expressing their true intentions.

The thing about online will writing services is that they're certainly cheap, and Final Fling has a fab website, but it's only speaking to a human being who picks up on little things said by the client which can make the difference between a good will and a bad one.

For example, the other day I was doing a simple will for someone who mentioned that one of his children had SN. If we hadn't spoken about that I would not have known to advise him about discretionary trusts for disabled children which are designed to ensure that his son won't be a target for unscrupulous people targeting him for his money, and that he'll still be entitled to means tested benefits. Because we had a proper, unhurried conversation about his family, the will I've written for him will ensure his disabled child's financial security.

Ticking boxes on online forms may be marginally (£50 or so) cheaper, but the long term costs to the estate can be enormous.

I note from their website that Exclusively Wills refrain from giving a price upfront, unlike mumblechum and most high street solicitors.

I know this is quite an old thread but I stumbled upon it. I used Exclusively Wills not long ago after we had Leo and they were very good. We called up to made an appointment for someone to come and see us and then we got some info in the post about what we should think about before the consultant came to see us. The chap who came was very pleasant indeed and he talked us through everything since we didn't understand much about it. He took our will instructions and said it would be a couple of weeks and we would get the wills back to sign. We got them back (about 10 days later), signed them and sent them back to them as they have a will storage option where we can change our will for free if our circumstances change. Really happy with our choice as they were a lot cheaper than a solicitor and they came to our house when it was convenient for us.
