Returning a toilet.... Advice please

Hi

Sorry, not really sure where to post!

We are renovating a house. We had to sack the first builders (long story but they built some walls wonky and were generally a bit crap) so it has taken 6 months more than anticipated.

I ordered an Ideal Standard toilet in January but have only just gone to fit it. The internal casting of the waste pipe is horrendous and the plumber has refused to fit it as it will just collect waste.

I emailed the company, with photos which show the obvious poor casting, and asked for a replacement. They have got back and said as it has been so long since we bought it (4/5 months) they wouldn't get credit from Ideal Standard so we could get a discount off another toilet (cost price).

I was just about to email Ideal Sandard but thought I would check on here in case someone could advise me whether I should be seeking a refund from the Internet store or the manufacturer, or whether it's just my tough lunch because I didn't check it. I fully accept that I should have checked but it is an obvious manufacturing fault!

Thanks for any advice.

If its not fit for purpose then I'd have thought you were entitled to a full refund regardless of time period.

Thanks fieldfare. That's what I thought but who from?

I can either - send a letter stating my rights to the Internet supplier (a big company) or contact the manufacturer.

Thanks

Your contract is with the company you bought it from. You need to start with them. If they want to pursue a subsequent claim with the manufacturer, then that is their business.
