Changes to CSA

Hi, very new to this so sorry if this is in the wrong topic area! Does anybody know when the CSA are changing over to gross earnings for absent parents and what the rates and rules are etc? I heard July but can't seem to find anything about it. Thanks.

It's in already, but only for families with 4 or more children. Being phased in for the rest, but no timetable yet,

Me too - although will those who are self-employed with a limited company set up purely to process their salary still be able to get away with saying that they have a very small income? My H had a ltd company and although his contractor daily rate gave him an annual 'salary' well in excess of 200k, was trying to get away with paying himself an 'official' income of just 40k. Luckily for us - at the moment - he has closed the company down for the time being, but I live in slight trepidation of him starting up again because in theory the maintenance we receive would be far lower.

I thought the final details were still being finalised. I'm sure Gingerbread have been doing one last push on their campaign before it goes through the House of Commons again.

meglet - The details for the gross earnings scheme were finalised ages ago and don't need to go through parliament again. The Gingerbread campaign relates to proposals to charge parents for using the Child Maintenance Service which will replace the CSA.

HeliumHeart - As with the current scheme it will still be possible to apply for a variation on grounds of "diversion of income", i.e. failing to pay himself a reasonable salary through his business.

Does anyone know if all current cases are being migrated? I'm receiving payments using the old CSA1 scheme still as there have never been any changes to circs and neither of us has asked for it to be moved.

If you're still using CSA1, you'll shortly be falling outside the scheme presumbly as the child will be leaving education soon. Can't see you ever being drawn in to the new scheme before you fall out of the CSA entirely.

I was told that current cases would slowly migrate, however if you make a new claim as a new client to the CSA when they release the date for the new gross system, then you would go straight onto the new system. I will wait until then as at the moment my ex is hiding much of his earnings in expenses as he is self employed. Bring it on!

Case opened 2001, finally caught up with him in 2011. I'm receiving 4 weekly payments which are deducted direct from his wages. It includes arrears too.

Thingummy i dont think ur ex being in scotland will make a difference to ur case.

I am dreading the change to the csa. My ex does everything to not pay towards his child. The changes means he will not pay at all coz its not worth me having to pay.

Why cant all NRPs just pay for their children without any hassle

I'm an NRP and I pay through the CSA my DEx and I did it together. I pay £89 per week and don't begrudge a penny of it! I don't give a fig whether it goes on petrol or food or even a night out for DEx and his DW.

When the changes come in are u going to stick with the csa & pay a fee? Just curious.

Yep I'll pay as much as they want me to. I know my DEx spends it wisely and I contribute towards DD's swimming lessons and school uniform as an extra

Debs66 - No - new cases are still for the time being based on net income unless there are 4 or more children.

The CSA moved to the % calculation in the the Child Support, Pensions and Social Security Act 2000, implimented from I think 2001.
