Solicitor as executor

My grandfather passed away recently. He was living the other end of the country to his relatives and appointed a solicitor to be executor. I have found the solicitor to be extremely unhelpful and would like to know whether we have to continue with them, or whether this responsibilty can be transferred to a family member?

If there are other executors they need to agree on sacking the solicitor.
