Electric Scooter for kids - laws?

Does anyone know what the legalities are for a child on an electric scooter. I was thinking of getting one for my 8 year old for when we go to Centerparcs but was wondering if he would be OK to use it.

If it was ridden in private ground it is a question for the owners, ie Center parcs. If there is good reason they may be amenable.
