I posted this in Chat yesterday and received some useful replies (thank you) but was also advised to re-post here, so here goes.

DH and I need to make wills as we married a few years ago. We each have our own house which we owned before we met. We have no children & won?t be having any. I am an only child with parents in their 70?s who are financially ok and I have no other relatives I would want to leave money to. DH has grown up siblings who both have teenagers. Here is the conundrum: who to leave our money to? We would like to leave it to each other but once DH dies I don?t want what was mine going to his siblings or their children. Not much point leaving it to my parents as barring incident or accident I will probably outlive them. Just wondered if anyone else is in a similar position to me and what you did? TIA

Hi, I'm a will writer and the scenario you describe is not that uncommon. I assume that you and your husband would like to leave everything (including your respective properties) to one another in the first instance? Your will can simply say that, and go on to say that if your husband has already died (and therefore you are leaving your joint estate), that a proportion goes to his nieces and nephews, and the rest goes to xyz charity, or a friend of yours.

I have a paid for advert over on Mumsnet Classifieds (Small Business) titled "5* Will Writing Service Recommended by Mumsnetters" if you want any more info.
