I am unsure if a Head Teacher lied or if a CAFCASS officer lied about an incident that went into a court report a number of years ago. I was very ill and not able to deal with it until recently.

How long can I go back, is it a year, five etc?

I know recently that CAFCASS have moved to the same regulator as social workers.

How do I go about freedom of information, complaints etc, as I need to get that information corrected.

Unless there are legal reasons I don't think social workers keep records for more than a few years.

Thanks, would cafcass come under social workers?

Make a subject access request under the data protection act to CAFCASS. Information sheet here.

You might find it useful to do a subject access request to the school as well - the ICO has a factsheet here. Other public bodies might hold useful information too, e.g. GP surgery or clinic for health notes.

They may or may not have kept records that far back but these requests will allow you access to the whole file and you can see what information was kept.

Social workers don't actually ever get rid of the records. They may be filed in a dark basement somewhere, and they may be filed in the wrong place and lost, but our city council has files dating back to the dark ages.

Childrens services Child's records are kept for a long time , can't remember exact details but way past 18. Don't know about CAFCASS though.

I have asked cafcass for records under freedom of information. Fingers crossed they won't make it difficult for me.

Thanks for your help.
