Redundancy

DH has been given notice of redundancy and his last working day will be 5th October. They are making him work his notice period.

He has found out that they are advertising his job as a temporary position once he leaves up until beginning of December. The issue I have with this is that if he worked up until 10th December, that would be his 5th anniversary and they would have to pay him another week of redundancy pay.

Are they trying to get out of paying this? I'm fuming as it is that they are making him work his notice and are being difficult regarding time off for interviews!

TIA.

Hi, I would say you have a case for complaint here and you should seek advice. As far as I am aware they should be offering him any alternative positions available so to advertise his job (or even a very similar job) seems highly suspicious and wrong! Working the notice period is not unusual.
