Is there anyone with legal expertise that could help me with something please.
At a first enquires hearing in a contact case when the applicant is asked to make their positional statement I think the other parties only get a copy 48 hours before the court date? is this true which would mean the respondent only has 48 hours to write theirs?

In all the court hearings ive been in for contact (I was the respondent and am NOT a lawyer) we had to file and exchange statements at the same time.

So if for example we were ordered to file statements by 4pm on Tuesday the xth, then we would write the statement, and a copy would be lodged with the court, and the the 2 solicitors (mine and the exs) arranged to swap them once they were both completed.

Do you mean a first directions appointment? Are you in England & Wales, or elsewhere?

The court order will stipulate precisely when the statements are to be filed. Often they are exchanged simultaneously, but not always. If you read the order it will be very clear.
