CSA Dont you just love em!

My husband received a letter today saying he owes the CSA £216.00. Thing is he thought he was not in arrears and had paid up to date everything that was owed.

Best of it is the 'child' is now 28 years old.

It seems his case has been reviewed 10 years after payment finished and he is being told he needs to pay up or else!! Is there no timelimit when he can say you should have asked for the money 10 years ago?

I am amazed they have the time to chase up someone 10 years after the fact when there must be thousands owing by people at the moment.

There is no time limit for the CSA to chase arrears. At the moment I understand they are trying to clear up older cases before they change over to a different computer system and the new gross income scheme.

Thing is it would be difficult for us to prove whether there was arrears or not as we shredded all the paperwork years ago as we thought we were up to date and that it was all finished.Oh well, we will wait and see but thanks for the reply.

I guess ask them to prove what the arrears are for

He can pay £10 and ask for a copy of all his records with them so he can try to see where these arrears have come from, at the same time asking them for a written calculation of the arrears.

Asking them to prove it is going to be the way to go I think. I just cant understand why they didnt ask for the so called arrears 10 years ago and why they have left it so long, but then nothing surprises us where they are concerned.
