Enhanced police checks

Hi

Wondered if someone could tell me what an enhanced police check exactly is? what sorts of things is it checking for?

My partner is going through court and due to his ex partner having had lots of social services involvement including very recently they considered putting his children on to the child protection register (although this was nothing to do with my partner being involved this was because his ex is always fighting with people and getting arrested)

Thanks in advanced

I think it is called Subject Access - basically, you get access to any information that is held on the Police National Computer about you.

You get a form from the police station and fill it in. It needs to be countersigned like a passport. The information you provide is to establish your identity and address.

If you are referring to an enhanced CRB disclosure that is not subject access and you don't get a form from the police station.

An employer or voluntary organisation can demand a CRB disclosure if you are going to work with children, young people or vulnerable adults. An enhanced disclosure gives details of any convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings regardless of how old they are. It also checks that the subject is not banned from working with children or vulnerable adults and contains any other information the police consider relevant. For example, if there is an ongoing investigation involving the subject that may appear on an enhanced CRB disclosure. The employer gets all of this information. The subject also gets a copy of the disclosure but that may not include all of the information given by the police if, for example, they don't want the subject to know that they are being investigated.

You cannot get a CRB check for yourself. The form must be submitted to the CRB by an employer or voluntary organisation that is entitled to demand disclosures. Note that most employers are not entitled to demand CRB checks. Even where the employer can demand a CRB check, they must only refuse employment if the information revealed by the disclosure is relevant to the job.

Your partner's court appearances and social services involvement will not show up on an enhanced CRB disclosure unless the police get involved and decide there is something relevant about your partner they should include.
