Good gift for solicitor

Hi my solicitor has gone above and beyond for our house sale/ purchase. Hasn't charged us for a gazumped deal and has done loads on the second property (first of a development not correctly set up by vendor)

I really want to say thanks so what do you suggest???

They aren't allowed to accept gifts. I've had to return a few gifts for the solicitors I have worked for.

More is right. I'd write a letter to his boss, telling him how impressed you are and how you're going to recommend their services to all of your friends.

A letter of thanks with some quotable sound bites about how good they were is probably about the best you can do if gifts aren't allowed.

I've always accepted gifts like chocolates, flowers and wine. You just can't accept cash gifts.

Flowers always go down well if it's a female and a nice bottle of wine or champers for a chap. Gifts ARE allowed. Just not extravagant ones!!

I've had some lovely gifts over the years; last Christmas a barrister bought me a lovely cashmere pashmina, and bought my secretary a silver pendant. Clients frequently bought flowers/plants etc.

I always appreciated just a thank you card or letter, you don't have to splurge on anything expensive.

Thank you cards always stay with me. A letter to my boss would be ace. Flowers/wine also gratefully received. I've always been told that gifts are fine as long as they are commensurate with the giver's wealth. But never cash and never before the outcome of the case (stinks of bribery!).

when I was a solicitor with a government body I was not allowed to accept gifts, except things like chocolates and biscuits which would get shared round the whole office. it is different in private practice though, only gifts after the conclusion of the case really and essentially a token gift like flowers or a bottle of wine. It was always a nice surprise getting flowers from clients :)
