Second-hand car - where do we stand wrt keys?

My dad has just bought a second-hand car from a dealer. When he went to pick it up, he was only given one key; the dealer said he would 'look into' it to see where the second key is. The key my dad was given had a dealer tag on it with "1 set of keys to follow" written on it.

My dad wants a second key soon as he is going on holiday and wants to take two keys with him; these are not cheap as they are part of the immobiliser and it's going to be well over £100 to have it cut and coded. Dad wants me to take him tomorrow to get a new key made and sort it out with the dealer later, but I think if he gets the key cut the dealer is going to wash his hands of it.

Where do we stand legally? The car was bought on the understanding that there were two keys but it isn't noted anywhere on the paperwork, just the note on the dealer's tag.

If you can prove it was part of the agreement to buy the car, it's part of the contract. Would you really bother taking them to court for the sake of £100 though?

Not take them to court, no. Was just wondering where we stand legally before I go down there and tell them they owe us a key.
