Removing Parental Responsibility - is it possible?

Now probably isn't the right time to actually do anything about this but maybe it will distract me. (also in Lone Parents)

My son hasn't seen his mother since he was 9 months old (he is now 5) I haven't seen or heard a peep from her since then either (I have tried to get in contact). Even before she disappeared, he mainly lived with me and had done since he was born (basically)
She doesn't want to know at all - about 18 months ago I tried to contact her for her to sign away her parental rights - she didn't want to know and I was instructed never to contact again.

Legally I know she automatically has that p.r

but is it possible to strip her of her p.r with her in absence. As in,in court or something?

My family think if it is then I should but I don't even know if it possible.

No it isn't possible. You can only remove PR from someone who was granted it by the courts in the first place.

I thought the mother has PR automatically anyway - is that wrong? Direct Gov hasn't been helpful but it said that she has PR automatically ("A mother automatically has parental responsibility for her child from birth")

Yes, the mother automatically has PR. She doesn't need to get it from the courts. That is the point Collaborate was making. As Collaborate says, you cannot have her PR removed.

Agree with Collaborate and PRH

I have had some experience in this area. She has responsibility and it cannot be removed. Pm me if you would like to chat/further info

You cant remove her PR however if your partner wants to adopt then this would remove PR.

I'll be watching this thread with interest so please do update when you have more information as I am in a similar situation too. Best of luck to you!

A child's birth mother can not have PR removed unless the child is adopted, the mother dies or she gives up her PR voluntarily.

There are no other ways around this, trust me I have tried!
