Receiving alimony payments from abroad

Has anyone experience of receiving maintenance payments or alimony from a spouse who lives and works abroad?

Are these payments subjected to UK tax if tax has been paid abroad in a country with double taxation agreement with the UK?

I had a client once whose husband was in Denmark. He paid tax on his income, and paid the maintenance to her in the UK. She then paid tax on that income.

If there is a double taxation agreement in place between the countries then that shouldn't happen. My case was around 15 years ago.
