Can he get away with this?

Hello,
STBX DH and I are currently at the financial stages of divorce.
Just before we split, we took out a loan on top of the mortgage for 15k to build an extension for our disabled DS.
Soon after we separated this money disappeared, he claims it was owed to a friend a he needed to pay it back, said friend has confirmed this although I was unaware of any money owed. It was withdrawn in 3 lumps of cash from the bank and thats where the paper trail ends, I suspect he has someone looking after it until the divorce is finalised. :( My solicitor has said I'm unlikely to see it again.
In the meantime I am looking at paying at least half that money back as I hope to remain in the house, there is a mortgage of 125k and its worth 135K, the loan has bumped up the payments to a level I cannot afford, hes still paying it instead of maintenance atm, I am worring myself sick over the whole thing.
I have 2 disabled DS's and 1 DD am on income support, he has been very manipulative and slippery throughout the whole thing and wants me to have as little as possible ( I asked for the divorce)
Can he really get away with hiding that money?

No. But your solicitor should advise you about all of this.

Remember the cost of arguing over it at court will be high.

Thanks Collabrate, my solicitor doesn't seem all that interested in finding the money, it must seem like pennies to her, it's a life changing amount to me. She said I'll probably not get any back.
I'm getting legal aid but I presume it will cost exdh lots to keep worming his way out of paying for anything.
