Someone has threatened to damage my property tomorrow I seriously believe this will happen. The police say they can't do anything until it happens...can't they warn the person off???

The police can't investigate a crime that hasn't been committed. If you've told them then presumably they have that on record and, if something happens, can use that.

Sounds rubbish though. Can you move property / mark it / record in any way?

Sorry, I beg to differ. Whoever you spoke to at the police was talking rubbish. There is a specific offence of making threats to commit criminal damage under Section 2 of the Criminal Damage ACt 1971 ... here ....

2 Threats to destroy or damage property
A person who without lawful excuse makes to another a threat, intending that that other would fear it would be carried out,?
(a) to destroy or damage any property belonging to that other or a third person; or
(b) to destroy or damage his own property in a way which he knows is likely to endanger the life of that other or a third person;
shall be guilty of an offence.

Also, can I ask how the threat was made to you? How did it make you feel? If you were felt alarmed, very upset and/or distressed it could also amount to an offence under Section 5 or Section 4 of the Public Order ACt 1986.

Phone the police again and tell them you are reporting an offence under Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act 1971 and don't take no for an answer. Good luck
