Liability for credit card debt

If a credit card is held in the name of just one of a married couple, rather than both of them, who is liable for that debt in a divorce settlement? Is it just the person named on the card or is it a joint liability? The debts have been run up over the time of the marriage and are on general (if rather extravagant) living.

Usually it's considered a joint debt, but it's also down to the value of the other resources and needs. Google s25 matrimonial causes act and you'll get the list of factors taken into account. To find out how they will apply to your case you'll need to take proper legal advice.
