Any lawer around? Desperate help needed

bit long but please read.

Ok i will try to explain briefly.

I was renting for 7 years from a mad lady. In those 7 years i always paid the rent. The landlady did some repairs to the boiler and washing machine when those were not working but nothing more, not redecorating or anything. The flat hasn't been touched for years.

18 months ago she gave me notice saying that she wishes to live in the flat herself. It was very bad time for me because i was having a nervous breakdown at that time. Anyway when i left i have not cleaned the flat or the windows. She sent me an email about 10 months ago saying that she is looking for my new address and she will take great pleasure in taking me to court and seeing me suffering' . I did not reply.

Today i've got a letter at my address from a company who acts on her behalf and say that i own her 9 K!!! (for cleaning, new looks, new bath, new sink, new taps, light fittings, light switches...) !!!

The letter says if i dont pay by 24th May they will take me to court. It is the last thing i need right now (i am having medical tests for health problems ).

What i do?

I think you need to contact Citizens Advice first. They will have loads of help on tenants/residence dis-agreements and will then be able to put you in touch with any legal people.

When you left did she come and inspect the place? Did you get your deposit back? Can she prove you did the any damage? I think she is personally trying to scare you. Have you got photo's of the things she is trying to say you damaged. There is no way on earth she has forked out £9k for that lot and if it went to court she would have to prove exactly how much and why she chose such expensive items when those fitted beforehand where not of the same value.

Everything that Happylander has said. CAB are great and expert in this field. Do not engage in a slanging match. Keep and print off her email to you stating she wants to see you suffer and show CAB a copy.
