How do I get my belongings back?

Some months ago our local pub changed hands. After a short period of time a member of staff left along with various items belonging to the pub. In a spirit of neighbourliness as the new owner was having a tough time, I lent them a number of things to tide them over until replacements could be bought. 6 months on and despite repeated requests none of the items have come back/been replaced.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get the items back? It's a free house so no pub chain involved that I can complain to. I could go in and refuse to move until he gives me everything back but I don't really want to be central topic of discussion in the pub for weeks to come.

Assuming the items aren't hugely valuable you could make a claim through the small claims process. If you want to go down that route you should write to the landlord giving a deadline for return of the items and stating that you will be taking legal action if they are not returned by that date.
