I am hoping to return to work part-time once my Maternity Leave finishes. Unfortunately my Line Manager has not been of any help and is now no longer my Line Manager and will not tell me who my new Manager is. I have written down the sequence of events and would like any advice on my situation. I think I may book an appointment with CAB but would be grateful if anyone would could point me in the right direction of what to do next. Thank you.
Due to return to work after 1 year Mat Leave on 06/06/11.
Sent letter to Line Manager and HR to request flexible working on 07/04/11 (around 8 weeks before I was due back) requesting that hours are reduced from 35 over 6 to 14 over 2. Also asking to add my accrued holidays on to the end of my Maternity Leave.
Still no reply from Line Manager not even an acknowledgement that they had received letter.
Decided to call Line Manager on 26/04/11, was unable to speak to them so was advised that they would call back but they never did.
Called again on 27/04/11, Line Manager was in an appointment and advised that they would call back, no phone call by 3pm, so tried again and was advised that they were too busy to speak to me and would call me back.
Did not call on 28/04/11 as I was hoping that they would call me but they never did.
Was Bank Holiday weekend so was unable to contact until 3/05/11
Called my work 3 times on 03/05/11 and there was no answer each time, so decided to text Line Manager at 1pm.
Called HR to advise that I had not been able to contact Line Manager and ask if there was anything I could do, was advised that no it all had to be dealt with through the Line Manager, however if I could in contact with the Regional Manager they could help by getting the Line Manager to speak to me.
Managed to get Regional Manager?s phone number, called 3/5/11 no answer but left a message to call me back.
Receive a reply from text I sent to Line Manager, which advised he is no longer my Line Manager and that if I want to come back full time that is no problem they will find me a space where I can do full time hours. If I want to come back part-time then the I need to send an application to HR (who told me they can?t do anything it has to be Line Manager). I replied asking if they had received my letter as that was my application for flexible working and who my new manager was, the reply to this was, basically this is what Regional Manager said and there is nothing they can do about I have to go through HR. So no acknowledgement of my letter or who my new manager is.
So my question?s are where do I go from here? I feel like that this is going to be that start of me getting past from pillar to post. Also, is this sex discrimination? It feels like they are going to make it as hard as possible for me to come back part-time, but no problem at all if I want to go back full time.
Or am I blowing it all out of proportion? Any advice would be greatly received.
