rip off restaurant

My DP booked a well-known restaurant for a special occasion back in February. At the time a set-price menu was available which he said he would have - he confirmed the booking by email but did not directly refer to this menu. We have now found out that the price of the set menu has dramatically increased effective the day we are due to go. We found this out by chance. The restaurant has refused to give us the original price. Effectively the cost will double, and as we are a fairly large party i feel this is grossly unfair. We don't want to cancel because some guests are coming a long way. Any advice welcome!

You can cancel the booking, in which case you haven't lost anything. Otherwise they're not obliged to hold the menu for you.

it's not a binding contract is it? they can raise their prices as they see fit, it's not a rip off as you can choose not to go

it would have been a nice gesture of goodwill for them to hold the price, rather than potentially lose a large booking , but they're not obliged to

if you don't want to cancel, you're going to have to suck it up
