Question about vehicle registration

macavitythemysterycat · 09/03/2011 18:44

Four of five years ago, I bought a vehicle to use with my then boyfriend. We split up very soon after and said vehicle has been festering in my garden ever since (I can't drive it). I have never registered it or SORNed it - stupid I know but time passed and it started to get too late. If I register it now am I going to get into trouble? I daren't send off the form. Or am I going to get into trouble anyway?

@ macavitythemystercat :- I would think it would be OK for you to send in the appropriate part of the V5 doc and say something like the vehicle has been in your back garden since you got it but you didn't get round to Registering it in your name and would now like to do that now and have it SORNed at the same time. I think the previous "Keeper" was meant to sign and send in one part of the V5, which may have happened, and you sign and send in another part. I don't think you will get into trouble. After it is Registered in your name the SORN renewals will come to your address.

Just to add - you must SORN it soon, or you will be fined for having a non-insured vehicle here (scroll down to Cars must always be insured ..)

Thank you both. I will post the document first thing.
