Can someone tell me if after a will has been read it is available to see by anyone?

Mine is kept at the Solicitors,in a vault I believe!They suggest you review it every 15 years or.

I have told the people who would be the executors of it and the people who would be guardians of my dcs should I die about the contents but I don't think you are obliged to do this,it is a private document if that makes sense?

Will's aren't "read" in most circumstances - very few people probably have them kept by the "family solicitor" who will read it ... to the consternation of most of the family at some great gathering.I've been an executor twice and have never formally "read" the will to the beneficiaries, but have merely executed the requests and called in and distributed the proceeds.

In order for the will to be executed there normally has to be a grant of probate - and the Probate Office (think it is still part of HM Courts Service) will retain a copy which can be requested by other people - not just beneficiaries.

For one of the wills I executed a beneficiary asked to see the will. I directed him to apply for a copy from the Probate Office (possibly in York?)
