Deeds

I could have sworn I wrote this thread yesterday, but it's disappeared.

Can anyone tell me what deeds to a house look like? Are they only sent once the house actually belongs to you?

What happens if the deeds are held by a bank/building society but they lose them?

aren't deeds fairly "useless" for most properties now - in that you can get copies of the information from the Land Registry?

ours were sent to us by the building society when we paid the mortgage off, and are basically all the documentation relating to the house purchase, registration with the Land Registry etc. They are sitting in the cupboard.

If the bank/building society lose them then I would be wanting them to pay to obtain copies.

I don't know, ChasingSquirrels; I don't really know what they are!

title deeds.
I think losing them is only a problem if it is an old property that isn't registered with the Land Registry, so that you wouldn't be able to get copies.

You don't get given deeds nowadays. They used to issue land or charge certificates but don't bother these days.
