I have another thread going at th moment. Just wondered if someone can help me find the meaning of this;

In the tenancy agreement it says nothing about notice. all it says is a term of 6 months.

question;

what does this mean;

2.The agreement creates an assured shorthold tenanct within Part l chapter ll of the housing act 1988. this means that when the term expires the landlord can recover possession as set out in section 21 of that act unless the landlord gives the tenant s notice under paragraph 2 of section 2A to that act stating that the tenancy is no longer an assured shorthold tenancy.

is this about notice? i have tried google but no results

Housing Act 1988 here

Without reading the housing act I think it means that when your rental 6 months term expires, the landlord is not obliged to re let the property to you, that you are in a defined term contract unless the landlord decide to extend it or make it indefinite at the end of the initial period.

it goes on to a periodic assured shorthold after 6 months, when you can each give notice to the other.

Hi, from experience...one normally issues a short term tennancy agreement which I think the minimum is 6 months. After the 6 months has expired, either party can terminate the agreement by giving the agreed notice period, ie one month, etc. This is normally in the agreement. If you sign the agreement for a 6 month tennancy then either party decide against it say after 2 months, you being the tennant can stay there til the 6 months is up or if you move out the landlord can charge you for the remaining period. I think from memory this is basically what it means.
