Student HV being expected to extend practice without pay.

Having had an awful time with a critical negative teacher in practice I finally moved placement after 9 months. I found out that 5 other staff members within the practice had suffered similarly with the person. As I arranged to move several other complaints were made against the person from other areas outside the practice I was in.
The person succeeded in destroying my confidence and it took time to recover in the new practice area. Consequently it was predicted that I could not be signed as competent at the expected time and an extension of 4 weeks was requested.
I have been informed by my new teacher that the extension will be granted but without pay. I feel that this is unreasonable but would welcome advice from anyone who has knowledge of employment law. I feel I had no control in who I was placed with and have made excellent progress since moving which suggests it is not my fault. What to do?

Have you spoken directly to the PCT yourself? I'm guessing you have done the training on a fixed term contract. If you feel you have a good case then go directly to them. Do you think it will actually be 4 weeks? have you submitted all your uni work and portfolio? What about asking the union? Are you with CPHVA.

I qualified as HV this time and was on fixed term contract which had a start and end date so , I guess, there's no legal obligation for them to allow you to carry on at all. They probably think they are meeting you half way by letting you finish your course but not agreeing to pay you

Hi Mrs M I have emailed the manager and HR to arrange appointments. I am with a union but not CPHVA yet. Under other circumstances I would agree that meeting half way is fine. However, due to the working atmosphere it was almost impossible for me to develop as a practitioner. The situation was intolerable for the other HV as well as me and the PT was moved elsewhere when I moved to my new placement. From this I feel that I should not be denied pay as clearly it was outside my control.
