Adding Father's details to Birth Certificate

DP's ex registered their child's birth without him and as they weren't married his details are not on the birth certificate. He's been looking into the process of having his details added but the various websites with information about this process are quite confusing.

His ex is unlikely to be accommodating about this and they have spent some years in and out of the family courts trying to sort contact out. DP now has court orders which identify him as the father and he has PR.

What we're trying to establish is how he needs to go about getting his details added and whether his ex needs to agree to it. If anyone knows anything about this process and could either give us some advice or point us in the direction of a website (preferably one other than direct.gov.uk which is not very helpful) which would explain the process, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Make a personal visit to the registrars office and ask them to explain the procedure.

My understanding is that he needs to complete form GRO185 and take it to the register office where the birth was originally registered along with the relevant court orders. A phone call to the register office should give a definitive answer.

Thanks for the responses, I'll tell him to give the register office a call and see what they say.

He has tried ringing before and they weren't too helpful but it's probably time for another try.
