Partneships / sole trader etc question please

If anyone can advise we'd be grateful.

Dh ahs a small business he runs around being a student. He currenlty works about 20 hours and I am a carer so we need to get the business to 24 hours for TC purposes, but with everything DH is out of time- with commuitng etc he does 70 hours and then is needed to help me with caring duties (a lot takes two of us).

As I seem unable to find work I can fit around the caring, the obvious soluyion is for me to join the business and help with admin, sales etc- I can;t do the technical stuff but I can that.

I suspect employment would be fiddly, for a start I;d have to make my own wages so he couldn't just offer me minimum wage (it's very early on for the business and we ahve to plough lots into equipment- DH plans to offer rental from 2011). So he is thinking about a partnership. Would that work? How do we swap from sole trader status to partnership? Are there any otehr things to know?

TIA
