Immigration law - African countries to UK

Can anyone help?

DH and I have been asked to write a letter in support of BIL's fiancee's application to renew her visa - she is originally from an African country.

We've been asked to provide facts and dates - when they met, when they moved in together, how long we have know them as a couple.

I am worried that her application might fail. They have a daughter together now and it would be devastating for the family if she had to return. She's very much part of the family.

I'm not sure what sort of visa she has - it allows her to work here but she cannot get married which is why they're currently only engaged.

Does anyone know anything about this sort of case? Will it be enough that she now has a child with BIL?

Would it make any difference if the country was a member of the Commonwealth.

Good question - I don't know.

Well her home country is in the Commonwealth (thought so).
