Child Maintenance and Housing assistant/council benefit

Can someone help me understand if child maintenance affects those two things? I am starting a split up with my husband and we've got a house to sell.

Matters are complicated that I am a childminder but hoping to find a rental close by that will a)let me continue work and 2) accept housing benefit.

Because we have a house to sell, huge mortgage and quite bad debt I will not ask for child maintenance yet but once everything is sold and cleared (which the sale of the house will take care of) I will be.

So... if any of that makes sense, any advice?

Go and ask the CAB

Right ok, just wondered if anyone had been in this position and I could get my head around it as it won't be until Monday.

Child maintenance, I don't think, is taken into account where benefit/HB etc is concerned.

check out the direct.gov website

Child maintenance is included for calculations for HB and CT benefit but not for tax credits purposes, so you may find you'd be better off asking your ex to buy school uniform or shoes if you feel you can trust him.

www.childmaintenance.org/en/childsupport/index.html

maintenance does not affect HB CTB or Income support.

It was fully disregarded from april 2010
