COMET and their poor customer service

I bought a washing machine and tumble dryer from COMET back in MAY. The tumble dryer has started making a horrid noise from the drum today so have turned it off and rang comet.

We got some of the money for the items from the family fund which helps families with disabled children and for us the tumble dryer is essential as we have an austistic son who bed wets so washing piles are horrendous!

anyway after 20 minutes on the phone we were told that an engineer could not get out to see us till 20th september and that he would probably have to order parts...so basically our tumbler wont be fixed till end of month!
This is disaster for us! cant cope that long with no tumbler, even 4 days would leave us with a huge problem!!!!
Asked if i could take tumble dryer back to store and get an exchange was told no, asked if i could take it back and get refund told NO

Im fuming, they have escalated my complaint and are ringing before 6 to see if they can find a solution but surely this isnt right or fair?

It's not right or fair but sadly nowadays these large companies will always do the minimum they can get away with. Often budget companies like this have such tight profit margins (due to their low prices) they would be out of business if they tried to offer good service too on a regular basis.

Is there no warranty with the dryer? The law says goods must be "fit for purpose" and "last a reasonable time" so you may have legal grounds to complain

If you get no joy it may be worth checking with your local Trading Standards or even suggesting your local paper may run a story on your problems. The one thing these companies don't like is adverse publicity
