CSA Chaseing arrears

My boyfriend is being pursued by the CSA for arrears that they say amount to £13000. They are currently deducting a large portion of his wages every week and are now asking that this total amount must be paid in full within 2 yrs which is impossible for my boyfriend to do. He has explained this but they are insistant and are now saying he is at risk of jail because he cannot pay and that if this happens he will still owe them the arrears on his release.

All this has occured because of a mistake on the CSAs part. He has always provided for his children since his split with his wife. He was told to come to an agreement with her and was paying her cash every month plus taking them out regularly as well as paying for contract phones etc. This was whilst she was claiming benefits but she has recently moved into a new house with her new partner and has decided to go back to the CSA for more maintenance.

My main question for anyone out there who may have been through this is what is the likelyhood of a jail term for this. Ihave tried to reassure him that our jails are too full to be sending people there for this type of thing but he is convinced that is what will happen.

It is unlikely he will go to jail while he is paying. It would be far more likely if he was refusing to pay at all.

You say this is because of a mistake by the CSA. What was the mistake? If they've got it wrong, it should be possible to sort it out.
