hi all, i am due baby #5 in 3 weeks. i usually produce big babies. 8lb 11, 9lb, 9lb 13 and 8lb 8. i have had growth scans and this one is average size. last scan predicted 5lb 11 at 37 weeks. so predicted 7lb at term. has anyone else had this? i know i shouldnt worry just doesnt fit with my expectation of fat babies.

Growth scans are notoriously unreliable, you may well end up with a cubster anyway

Try not to worry!

i did think that but am not as big this time, so much so that friends have commented on it. i have been under a lot of stress throughout this pregnancy, maybe thats had an effect.

don´t worry about it my babys were quite big as well but there all bigger now and they are perfekt so don´t worry

7lb's is a good weight for a baby, a huge chicken but a good baby.
I bet he/she is 9lb at least, I was told at a 33 weeks scan my eldest basically had no legs, she's like a giraffe at 10.

Hi pinkstuff, My dd1 was small 6lb 11, wee bit stressed through pg, ds was 8lb 9, then dd2 was charting small they kept checking everything,

asked had I changed partners as this could be the reason (No I hadn't) but I was really stressed through her pg, she was 6lb 13
I don't know the answer at all BUT I wouldn't get too stressed about it, they brought me in and did the doppler scan(I think that is what it was called) and all was good so I didn't worry and let the hospital get on with it

Pronoia · 14/04/2010 19:19

Average is 7lbs. the babies you think of as small are a great deal closer to average than the ones you're thinking of as normal!

PlumBumMum · 14/04/2010 19:25

Pronia so true,
I always thought my dds were just right and ds was massive and I think the hospital made a bigger deal of it than needed to be made

7lb is still healthy so dnt worry. i too am expecting dc #5 in 11wks. asked consultant for potential home birth this wk as midwife insisted i ask them because of risk of pph wit #5.
so i went in with a big argument for management of pph should it occur but no they are worried because dc #4 was 9lb6oz and that if this one is bigger risk of shoulder dystocia. when i asked how big they would let baby get the registrar had to confess they are not very accurate in guessin baby weight even with scans and measurements.
so straight from horses mouth they are inaccurate and a lot of guess work is used so you never know you may have a surprise and baby is probably gonna be round 9lb or 8lb mark anyway.
your baby will beautiful all the same good luck x
