Holidays with a larger family?

So can I just ask are hotels out unless you can afford more than 1 room? I'm right in thinking that you can only get 2 children max in one room aren't I? What about flying read somewhere (?here) that some airlines wont let you fly with 4 under 10's. Does anyone know if I'm right or not?

We must have flown with 4 under 10s on several occasions. Would recommend Virgin, they are just brilliant with kids. We now get villas/condos/apartments as they offer more space and flexibility and work out cheaper.

Have you also posted this on the "Holidays" forum? Are you talking about long or short haul?

We tend to stay in resorts where you get a cottage/condo and living space. We have done Centerparcs (4 bedrooms + living room/kitchen) and similar arrangements. We look to pay by the apartment rather than per person or room.

We are a family of seven and usually end up in a sleeps 8 - 10 place.

I think once you have more than 2 you have to rent villa's etc.
We paid £6k for a hotel in disney last year for 5 of us and I really really wish we'd hired a villa, would have saved me £2,500 at least.

I flew with 4 under 10 from UK to Canada (alone as dp was still in the UK and following the next month). The airline staff were unhelpful and seemed freaked out by me but once they saw I could manage them, they were fine. The adult passengers were more bother than my 4.

Ooh scienceteacher - that resort looks gorgeous. Canada is an unusual choice too....

what about camping. they have many huge tents out there on fantastic sites.
This also offers the opportunity for the kids to wake up and play instead of being stuck in a high rise apartment or hotel.

WE have flown fith 4 under 10 many times. most often with easyjet. They give priority to passengers with families at boarding in which is fab (if you are on time!).

We went there (residence Diar Lemdina) last year, the hotel has little flats instead of rooms. Our was 2 bedrooms, a livingroom that could become another bedroom at night, a little kitchen (that we barely used as it was half board and we had picnics on the beach at lunch time) a nice bathroom with shower + an en-suit in one of the bedrooms)
If you like quit holiday in the sun with not too much to do I would strongly recommend it! I found it very child friendly as well. We did pay just over £500.- for 10 days for the 6 of us but DH book straight with the hotel, not with a travel agent. Same for flight with british Airways 9again not a problem with 4dcs) booked straight with airline.
