Are your childen smaller than average?

It's weird, and I'm sure there is no link, but in every large family (ie four or more kids) I know the children are either average or smaller than average size. Mine are all either average or small for their age.

All 4 of my older kids were tiny. DD2 (15 months) has been tall since birth.

I have 5 dc and 3 of mine are smaller than average .

That's just a co-incedence, of course there's no link. Why would there be? It's not like they all share the womb together and have less space

I have 5 siblings. Only one is a shortarse.

Not true for my family

out of 5 - 3 are average sized, 1 is huge (just 3yrs and in age 5 clothes ) and little dot (not his real name) is so called because of his size. Hes 2.1 and just growing out of 9-12mth clothes as he has for about 2mths now!

1, 2, 3, 4 are quite diddy, 5 is huge and 6 is a tall skinny snake of a baby!

3 out of 4 larger than average being my sons, my dd started out my biggest baby but is now a very dainty 2yr old

I know of a family of 9 who were all extremely tall . There's no reason why a large no of children in a family should directly cause those children to be of small stature.

Mind you, in previous generations - and in some developing countries- children may be undersized because of poverty and undernutrition. In those same situations, families may also for cultural reasons be larger, but that would be a combination of different factors rather than a causal process.

My boys are all small, gily was always tall. My boys drowth spurt seems to slow right down when they start school..and the gilries are tall.

DP is 6'3 and i am 5'6 so was expecting tallish boys, have been told boys seem to grow later, so will see!

Can;t see why there would be a link tbh.....mine eat like horses but just don't grow!

yes all have been (are) between 4th and 0.4th centile, born bigger 9except ds1) but then seem to drop down, settle and go from there

Maybe smaller birthweight=easier delivery=more children?! Am not in that category myself,having had 4 fairly big babies who are now fairly big children.

My first 2 were lighter at birth but the following 4 were well in to 8 and 9 lb weight and I am a small woman. They are not big children now but were pretty big babies.

I don't understand why anyone thinks number of children has a bearing on infant size

I'm not in that category either cabog, mine were all heffalumps at birth-even the twins, but slowed down at school age.
