I have only irrational fear that mine might be twins, but I'm fearful all the same. LG&T it's all your fault, talking of twins.

Did you suspect you were having twins or was it a complete shock?

There's no real suspecting of twins. The dating scan comes round too soon.

Dh's dad is a twin (NI) I'm sure either my grandmother or her mother was a twin, but there haven't been anymore since and my mum was one of 8.

I can verify that

fraternal twins go down the maternal line (ie the tendency to double ovulate) - but you can't be sure with ids - they just appear when you least suspect them

I know someone who had fraternal twins (boy/girl so certain!) Absolutely no twins in her family for hundreds of years.

Me on the other hand-twins all over both sides of my family.

Do you know, in a sort of weird 'needs medication' way, I think I would like twins.

I have twins..2 sets in fact!

I had 4 singletons and then was shocked to discover twins!.....went back 3 years later and on the dating scan i could see twins again!..it was actually triplets but one didn't make it .

No twins whatsoever in my family!..but there is now...sisters are worried..lol

twins don't have to be that bad ya know! i look after my 1 year old nephew who was triply times more hard work than any sets of twins i know!....

oh and to answer the questions....

no, never suspected i was carrying twins, no sickness whatsoever.

I think it is more likely the more children you have i think-but that usually happens because you are older rather than the number of children you have had iyswim? (however not quite in my case- i was 27 with first set and 30 with second set.

Fraternal twins is meant to run in families-but not in my case....however every 'run in family thing' has to start somewhere!

Yes I have twins, DD4 and DD5. I had no idea until nearly half way through my pregnancy as I didn't go for an early scan (this was 12 years ago). The pregnancy itself was not so very different from any of the others until near the end when I was huge, but then they were 7lb 6oz and 7lb 12oz and I'm only little!

my first set were 6lb 13 and 7lb 12
2nd set were 7lb 5 1/2 and 7lb 12!!!

Well i have been verrryy lucky, all good eaters and sleepers, really quite calm children so it all helps.

You will cope with twins again i am sure.....and if it is a singleton..then in theory it should be a doddle for ya!..

I lost a twin pregnancy (at just beyond 16 weeks) so I live in fear of the possibility. DD would have have four brothers rather than two and a sister had I not lost them...

My maternal grandmother was a twin and I worried about fraternal twins but this set was identical.

i was told after having my twin girls once you hit 30yrs the odds of having twins are 1 in 100. but to make matters worse if you have twins already the chances of having twins again are then 1 in 7.

All nine of mine were singletons.
In fact, I sometimes felt they were some kind of reverse of twins as I had 8 m/c, too. So a live baby per 2 pgs almost.

We don't have any history of twins afaik.

I'm now sort of glad that I didn't have twins as I got to experience pg and birth more times than I might have had I had twins

I am five, all single births, but DS1 should have been a twin (I lost his twin at 6/7wks).

there are many twins on my side of the family, and I would have loved having twins, but not to be.

I nannied twin boys tho before having mine, and I have to say, (pregnancy bit ignored here as I obviously cannot comment), I found twins far far easier than single babies.....when I had DD1 I was at a acomplete loss as to what to do with 'just' one baby!!

so much so, I went back to the family and to the twins when DD1 was 5wks old, I missed to 'two-someness' of it all.

I am not five, I HAVE five!!!
