How often do you change everyone's bedding?

Do you have extra linen or just one set for each bed?

Do you hang the bedding to dry or use a tumble dryer?

I used to do it every week (or more often if necessary) but when DH became a full time student and we had to pay for laundry (not to mention the queueing) I started to do all of the bedding once every two weeks. I don't think I have managed to change 'everyone's ' every week since.

I do have a spare set for everyone but almost found it easier when I had to wash, dry and replace the only set in one day.

i will!!!

ChristinePlushPants · 31/03/2008 09:51

I wash dd3's bedding whenever she wees on it (couple of times a month at least), dd4 when she wees on it (once a month or so, usually when she's managed to remove her nappy in the night), dd2 for the same reason but probably in the realms of every 4-6 weeks now, and dd1 when she tells me it needs doing (not very often at all!). Their ages:

dd1 is 10, dd2 is 8, dd3 is 6 and dd4 is 4.

Mine and dh's bedding gets done when the smell gets too bad!

As for ironing it - yeah right, it's as much as I can do to get it washed, dry and back on the bed before lights out! Until a couple of weeks ago I had a cleaner who also did my ironing, so if I timed it right she would iron my duvet covers for me, but dh is currently out of work and we've had to stop the cleaner, so goodness only knows what will happen to the bedding now - I'll just open the windows and let the fresh air in and nobody will notice

Ooh Paula your cupboard reminds me that my cupboard is coming when we sell our house in England (at last - sale was agreed in Oct and we complete on Fri )

Then we'll have a bit of cash too, so maybe some new bedding is on the list!

Have to think about that ironer...

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 31/03/2008 16:58

i am shocked a lot of you only have the odd set and deciding i am he odd one here

weblette · 31/03/2008 17:23

It gets done when I remember to which tends to be every couple of months

pedilia · 31/03/2008 18:48

I'm with paula- my airing cupboard has piles of clean sheets, organised into piles for different beds, it is actually vey easy to maintain once it has been organised the first time.
Respect to those of you that cope with one set of bedding, I couldn't!! And mismatched would drive me mad

lljkk · 31/03/2008 19:14

Loads of spares, line & over top of door drying, every 2-4 wks as a routine thing, was changing only about 1x/3months when b4 we had 3 dc.

ggglmpp · 31/03/2008 19:26

I do ours and the younger children weekly. Baby every couple of days. Teenagers get nagged and it is prob fortnightly.

I follow the brilliant advice of a mumsnetter. I fold up the pillowcases and sheet inside a folded duvet cover; that way everything stays in sets and you are never hunting around at midnight for a single sheet or yellow pillowcase if someone pukes....

PYates - I have a huge oak cupboard and am also a little in love with my linen.

lovecamping · 31/03/2008 19:30

i'm averaging once a month at the moment, unless been sick or particularly dirty because of snot etc... glat to know i'm not the only one...

stuffitllama · 31/03/2008 19:39

Succour to tickle and pillowcase .. it does happen in our house but shall we say -- not as often as my mother in law would approve of

I turn them over before changing except for ours.

MissPaulaYates · 01/04/2008 21:13

ENFIN!!!

the linen cupboard - prepare to feel deflated - it is really not that wild!

jenniejennie · 01/04/2008 21:30

When duvet cover and pillow cases stop looking white and start going a bit yellow, probably about a week after that..... or when we have guests coming to stay.......

pillowcase · 01/04/2008 22:01

MissPaula,
Now you see I AM impressed. WOW!

If I had that cupboard I would have stuffed EVERYTHING you have in the 2 pics into one shelf.

Mmmm i feel a cleaning spree coming on...

... NOT! April Fool!

MissPaulaYates · 01/04/2008 22:04

oh i believed you for a minute there !!!!!!

i read your words out to dp !!

pillowcase · 01/04/2008 22:14

hey, serious kudos about the shelves.
sorry if it came out wrong

It's just my cleaning spree that's a joke, that'll never happen.

MissPaulaYates · 01/04/2008 22:16

dont be silly i laughed out loud!!!

i did say i was a bore but lotsa kids mean i go out of my mind without order

MissPaulaYates · 02/04/2008 12:32

and i took ages downloading them !!!!

Tickle · 02/04/2008 22:30

If I had an oasis of order like that anywhere in the house I would photograph it

Psychomum5 · 02/04/2008 22:50

mine get changed every 2wks if all is well, but if anyone is ill then more often as I find you sleep better (and therefore recover quicker) on fresh bedding.

the boys however get changed weekly cos they smell!!!!. (I do mean in, and I have no idea how as they bath or shower daily.....DS2 still has the odd accident which explains him, but DS1......yuck!!! guess all the mud he plays in must absorb into his skin in some way)

as for the drying.....on the line or draped over the airers, or if needed quickly then tumbled.

I have several sets per kiddies bed, but only 2 for ours......me think I need to buy some more

MissPaulaYates · 03/04/2008 14:00

tickle i do love it for the sheer order of it

thats what you lose with over 3 kids or i have atm - any sense of the o word!

MehgaLegs · 03/04/2008 14:14

I love your cupboard paula!

I'd like to do similar with the lovely old pine wardrobe that use to be in the playroom - it woyld be perfect but we can't get it up the blardy stairs.

MissPaulaYates · 03/04/2008 14:17

Thankyou mehgalegs!

i was thinking the photo did not do the cupboard any favours!

there is a lift up flap under the bottom shelf wherin reside the fitted sheets as they do not sit so neatly on the shelves

superking on the left going down to cot on far right......yawn!

PinkTulips · 03/04/2008 14:25

theoretically?..... every week for all of us.

realistically?..... every week and a half to 2 weeks for kids and possibly longer for us as i have no spares for our bed and can't afford to run dryer so have to time it for when i can get stuff dry which in a freezing cold house in the middle of a damp field in soggy ireland is not very ften

drives me mad too as i love nice clean sheets.

as for spare sets we have none, ds has none and dd has about 4 thanks to my mom giving me all of my old bedclothes.... which means ds sleeps in pink duvets 50% of the time .... whoops!

magnolia74 · 06/04/2008 09:58

Well I am a slattern

Once a month for the older kids, every 1-2 weeks for ds1. Whenever I can be bothered for mine/dh's

I probably do have spares but my cupboard is a minefield
