Child Benefit 2 child limit scrapped ?

So I’ve just stumbled across an add on Facebook, advertising claiming child benefit for each addition child.

Since when was the 2 child limit scrapped ? I can’t find anything online about this ?

I have 3 yr old twins and an 18month old DD, I’m sure when I looked into it 18 months ago it was capped to 2 children ?

I thought it had changed to two as well (unless a 2nd pregnancy resulted in multiples in which case all children would get it).

I don't know when this changed

Wasn’t it child tax credits not child benefit that was limited to 2?

Mummyemx · 13/11/2023 22:19

i thought the 2 child limit was only for universal credit/tax credits. I have always received child benefit for my 3 children.

Yes. And Child tax credit (now part of universal credit) is a lot more than child benefit.

Child benefit was never capped at 2, only tax credits and universal credit are

noisyfrodge · 13/11/2023 22:20

It is tax credit and universal credit that are capped, not child benefit.

Damn it looks like I’ve made a silly mistake! At least I realised at 18 months and not 18 years!

Child benefit isn’t capped on the number of children. A lot of people presume it is because tax credits were restricted. Get applying for your youngest to go onto your claim now as the backdate is only 3 months

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 13/11/2023 22:22

Doesn't the cap just relate to tax credits/ universal credit?

https://www.gov.uk/child-benefit says no limit on child benefit.

Child Benefit

Child Benefit - child benefit rates, eligibility, how to claim, child benefit claim form CH2.

Don’t go through FB go through Gov website only.

Thank you all. I’m feeling very silly !

I have been trying to apply for child cresits but says I need to have working credit. But then when you go on the gov website for working credit it says you need to have existing child credits. I am so confused. Anyone can help?
