7 Seater That Seats 7 and has a boot

Seems almost impossible to find a car that seats all 7 of us (we have 5 who are 11 and under inc a newborn) whilst still having any form of boot.

We currently have a 15 Grand Picasso which fits a pushchair if dismantled and no other boot space and a Grand Voyager which fits everything but is terrible on fuel, not great to drive and is starting to fall apart a bit due to age. We've been through an Alhambra, old style Galaxy, Smax, FRV, X5 which have all been snug but doable when there was only 6 of us as you just had one seat down but now with 7 i can't see how they would work at all.

Looking around, there seems to be no "cars" that have a boot like the voyager if the seats are in use. We would prefer not to end up with a van. Any ideas? Need to replace the voyager sooner rather than later.

Just a thought - you said and 11 and under, unless very short or sn I don't know any 11 year olds who either no longer use a booster (with seatbelt) or are close to it. I have very short kids too, mine were 11.5.

Back to the cars - look at American brands, in the USA we had a dodge caravan but there were lots with full sized seats. Quite a few years ago but bigger families are common

Japanese Import Toyota Alphard, brilliant vehicle. If you use the right importer and there is only one I would use, they arrive in this country in an immaculate condition, well above spec, plenty of room inside, electric side doors. We had a Renault Espace when our children where younger (they are now adults) but this is a far more impressive vehicle.

I'd be curious to know who you'd recommend. I like the dealer I bought it off previously bought a Mazda bongo from him (also Japanese import) and it was super reliable. Happy to pass along the name if you want OP.

2015+ model looks amazing. Looks like a bit of a trip to actually find one to test/view. Questionable car seat compatibility as we need 5 seats capable of car/baby seats but only way to know is to go own with seats and pushchair and see if it all fits. No point even test driving it if it doesn't pass the seat/boot space test 😢

The seats are wide, certainly wider than volvo xc 90 and evenly spaced across the row. I've had many car seats and they'd all of fitted. Adjustable boot space. You can move the rows forward a bit and reduce legroom, still loads for children, and have a really deep boot or one fold up one seat against the wall which gives you a massive space.

It's a really flexible vehicle, I'd certainly have a look if you have the chance.

Honestly I think you might be going into minibus territory if you want a boot. I feel the pain. I have 4 children ages 5months up to 16. As the older ones are getting bigger it’s not just the boot that becomes an issue it’s the leg room too. With your older one at 11 you will be going into growth spurt zone at some point in the not so distant future.

It is so silly having “family cars” that don’t have a proper boot whilst all the seats are in use.

Good luck!

yeh our grand voyager is basically the same as a grand caravan but its not been made since 2014 and wasnt the best even new. our 11 year old is short (we are both only 5'5 ourselves) and is the height of most 9 year olds. rest are younger.
