Driving minibus on car licence

Does anyone here drive a minibus ( more than 9 seats) and have a regular car licence. The dvla says you can if you are over 21, have had licence more than 2 years and the journey is not for reward or payment. This would be for a family holiday hiring a 12 seater transit, I asked dvla on phone and they said ' I don't know it's a gray area????'

Iirc it depends on the weight of the minibus. If it's over a certain weight then it depends which classes your licence covers.

DaisyQuake is correct. If you don't have a D on your licence then you can only drive upto 3500 kg (gross weight). A 12 seat minibus should be fine with just people but add too much luggage and you'll exceed that!

Have you checked insurance? I was quoted at business prices.. Took the van back!

If you're still interested in hiring a 12 seater Transit for your family holiday, it might be worth contacting the hire company directly to ask about their policies and requirements.
Also, I found a great Volkswagen T6.1 Kombi minibus for sale on Truck1.eu that might interest you:https://www.truck1.eu/buses/minibuses/volkswagen-t6-1-kombi-kr-klima-9sitze-radio-heckklappe-a7095429.html.
Hope this helps and enjoy your family holiday!
