Driving insurance only covers 4 additional drivers!

Hi everyone, I've got three learners aged between 17 and 20 and was fine when we had only 2 learners but now can't seem to find an insurance company that covers 5 drivers on one car now my 17 year old needs to be added on. I've read you can have 6 per car but only for multi car policies (we only have one car) which makes no sense apart from possibly making the insurance company more money.

I've been on a comparison website and got stuck at the additional drivers stage (wouldn't let me add more than 3) and Direct Line which is not on comparison websites seemed hopeful because it let me input 4 additional drivers but the result was declined! I know you can get stand alone learner insurance (eg Marmalade) but I'm thinking ahead to when (hopefully) they all pass. The way things stand forces you to get more than one car per household and I thought we were all supposed to be thinking about climate change!!! Your experience/insights are really welcome. Thanks.

Do you really think 5 of you would share 1 car? I remember borrowing my mum’s car when I first passed and lived at home, and even then there were times I couldn’t use it with only 2 of us sharing. I ended up buying my own.

Putting that aside, maybe find an insurance broker to speak to?

Thanks MagicDeckchair for responding. Both myself and husband are light car users, my eldest walks to work and my second works from home so can't foresee desperate need for a 2nd car in the immediate future. Didn't know brokers dealt with car insurance so thanks for the suggestion.

Try giving Adrian Flux a ring. They are a brokers who specialise in unusual circumstances, and you actually get to talk to a human being.
I found them very helpful when I was struggling to get cover via any ofvthe automated, internet only companies that seem to have become the norm now.
Goid luck!
