Expecting n5 and just wondering if labour gets(hopefully) shorter 😁
My last one i thought it would be fast but still took a few hours, n3 was the fastest.
What are your experiences for fourth fifth sixth labours?

I'm probably an anomaly as I usually end up being induced but...

Dc1 was induced at 42wks and 13hrs.
Dc2 was spontaneous, reasonable run up but active labour was 6hrs.
Dc3 was induced at 42wks. 2hrs from waters broken.
Dc4 was induced at 40wks due to his large size, this was early for me so took a lot to get going. 4hrs active labour though.
Dc5 induced at 41wks. Another 2hr from waters breaking labour.

3 and 5 very very similar.

My shortest labour of my six was number 3 - it was 5 hours. Number 4 was 8 hours. Number 5 was just over 6 hours and number 6 (who was induced at 10 days past my due date) was 9 hours. All my labours have been loooooooong!!

1st was born 39+6 induced, 3 days then 7hr 38 mins after waters broken. Fetal distress and vontouse just a few pushes.
2nd spontaneous labour. I was 1cm at 39+6. 5cm at 40+5 when they agreed to break my waters, I was admitted to ward for the night before with constant contractions. 2hr 19mins after waters broken, 14 mins pushing.
3rd spontaneous labour, born 40+2. 2 days contractions, 11 mins after waters broken and just a few pushes.
4/5 were breech and transverse twins so c-section at 38wk.
6th spontaneous labour, born 38+6. I was in labour about 20.5hours before she was delivered by c-section. My 1st scar ruptured because she was huge so lost a lot of blood, I was booked for an elective c-section the next day too.

#1 40+12 1st contraction half 8 at night then born at 10.55 pm. Induced
#2 40+7 contractions from 8 at night born just after 8.30 in the morning.
#3 39 weeks 1st contraction half 7 at night then born at 2.30 am. Induced
#4 40+3 contractions from 5 in morning born at 9.30 am

First 17 hours
Second 3 hours
Third 3 hours

8th 4 hours
9th 4 hours
10th 4 hours
11th emcs at 35 weeks!

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 18/02/2022 22:04

Initially they get shorter (unless any complications like back to back or breech) But then as your uterus has to work harder they get longer again.
So I was told.
After pains get worse ime.
With dc 6 my uterus had gone back within 12 hours whereas usually in days. The pain was excruciating.. Needed pain relief...

THATunorganisedMUM · 19/02/2022 10:16

3 and 4 were my fastest around 5 hours each

5 was my worst i think (sorry)

I’ve heard baby number three is the most unpredictable!

I’ve (only) had 3 babies but in my case first labour was really really long and ended in a c-section,

my second labour was the shortest 6 hours or so but pushing was hard.

And my third was 9 hours

Out of the three my third was by far the easiest and most enjoyable as I was the most relaxed.

Saffrondoormouse · 05/03/2022 15:54

Adding to say that I had a long (9 year) gap between baby 2 and 3 so that probably was a factor too.

Kim82 · 05/03/2022 15:57

1st - 4hrs, 15 mins
2nd - 1hr, 5 mins
3rd - 35 mins
4th - 1 hr

I was induced with all four dc, didn’t find the labours too bad with the first 3, number 4 was horrendous and by far the most painful! No idea why, maybe because there was a 7 year gap between babies?

LightSpeeds · 05/03/2022 16:05

First: 8hrs 22m
Second: 20 mins (from when I deffo knew I was in labour)
Third: about 3 hours
Fourth/fifth (twins): 4 hours

Second was worst in terms of speed and pain.

No pain relief with babies 2-5.
No intervention with babies 1-4 (they broke waters for second twin (baby 5). Maybe that's standard practice due to risks of complications?!)

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/03/2022 16:11

Dc1 22 hours
Dc2 8 hours
Dc3 6 hours
Dc4 4 hours
Dc5 3 days
Dc6 was induced, 12 hours
Dc7 26 hours
Dc8 12 hours.

PowPurry · 04/04/2022 22:38

Number one naturally at 40+1 - 27 hour labour
Number two induced at 39+4 - 12 hours
Number three naturally on due date - quickest and easiest labour at around 6 hours
Number four - sweep at 38+1 on a Tuesday for reduced movements - body was not ready - continuous contractions for three days - waters had SROM’d 36 hours. Finally born on the Friday.
