3 car seats

Tiredmum31111 · 16/12/2021 15:46

Hi guys,
Anyone be able to give me an idea of a car that will fit 3 car seats in the back.
One will be a high back booster, a 5 point harness type one and the other an isofix base for a newborn carrier.

Thanks in advance.
Can't believe how many cars are just designed for 2 small people not 3! Xx

I have twins and a kid in a high back booster - Im managing with a c max

poorbuthappy · 16/12/2021 15:58

You need to love for cars with separate back seats.
Or (I don't mean this in a sarky way honest) do a search on here.
There's been loads of good information posted

poorbuthappy · 16/12/2021 15:58

And I mean look for not love for....

ReeseWitherfork · 16/12/2021 16:00

My research so far seems to tell me to go for an S Max, C max grand or Touran.
Lots of articles online just seem to misunderstand the task at hand. Or tell you to buy an Audi Q7 or a Tesla. (I've got twins on the way, not sure how I'm going to be able to afford childcare let alone an Audi!!)

Ozanj · 16/12/2021 16:03

I personally think the best way is to put the older child into the front passenger seat. Then the second adult can sit between the younger kids.

Is this what you did, and if so what car? We put two car seats in our car (which isn't small!) but neither DH or I actually fit (and we're both quite slim).
poorbuthappy · 16/12/2021 16:09

I've owned a touran, galaxy and s max.

You need 3 separate seats in the back.

And I agree with the Audi comment! Grin

We have a Citroen C5 aircross as it has 3 distinct seats in the back

I absolutely love driving it Smile. I can't comment on car seats but it definitely fits 3 adult-sized people in the bwck.

gogohm · 16/12/2021 16:21

I had 3 in my Mazda but unfortunately the model is discontinued - you could look at newer models, they are quite wide

Tiredmum31111 · 16/12/2021 18:09

Thanks everyone really helpful.
I totally agree with some of the stuff online it actually confuses me more.
Be lovely if money was no object and get that huge Audi or that Tesla 🤣 xx a

We have baby twins and a nearly 4 year old- we have a Volvo XC90 which has a built in booster seat in the middle of the middle row, that the eldest uses. The twins are in isofix seats at either side.

One of the versions of the Land Rover Discovery (maybe 4?) could also accommodate 3.

mishmased · 16/12/2021 20:48

Peugeot 5008, is another option 3 individual seats in the middle. Or get the multimac. We are currently doing what @Ozanj suggested. We have a Vauxhall Astra, my 8 year old seats in front in a high back booster, 6 year old seats in the back in hbb, baby is belted and I sit in the middle. I'm not happy with it so hoping to swap to a Peugeot after mat leave.

mishmased · 16/12/2021 20:50

@BlueCowWonders I am looking at that as well. What is the boot space like? Only considering the 5008 as kids are getting to the age of having friends or helping a parent collect a child from school.

WineIsMyCarb · 16/12/2021 20:52

We have a 2007 Citroen Picasso which has been super reliable. We are upgrading to a C5 aircross as a treat.

mishmased · 16/12/2021 20:54

@Tiredmum31111 you probably need to belt baby instead of isofix as isofix location is close to the middle of the car seat. We are using the Joie tilt, it is one of the slimmest in the market and up to age 4 so you cannot take baby out on a pushchair.

HiGunny · 16/12/2021 20:57

I have a Citroen C4 Picasso, the 5 seat version. I love it as it has 3 full size rear seats which can move forward independently and all 3 have isofix. Loads of room in the boot and yet it's a nice size for parking. I was put off a lot of the jeeps and people carriers as they look too long to squeeze into parking spaces.

Huge boot on the Aircoss!

wejammin · 16/12/2021 21:04

We've just got a Peugeot Rifter, ugly as fuck but cavernous and a dream to drive.

Tiredmum31111 · 16/12/2021 21:07

@mishmased yeah I didn't use the pram car seat with my last baby and did the same as you and just picked the baby out and transferred into the pram. We have a joie spin one with an isofix base now though so it's pretty big so thought the one that comes with the pram might actually be smaller....but who knows ha.
@HiGunny I'm the same and want a big car but not tooo big that it's hard to park.
What type of seats do you have in the back? Is the boot spacious?

Thanks everyone all your comments are really helping

mishmased · 16/12/2021 21:15

@Tiredmum31111 we had to buy new car seats. We got the Besafe hbb x2 and the Joie tilt. If your oldest is over 6 or 7 I'll put in the front with a hbb and get the tilt for the baby. The tilt is 42 or 44cm and is the smallest I could find, I spent months looking as I didn't want to put the kids in a backless booster.

SBlonde · 16/12/2021 21:16

I have the discovery and although it has 3 seats in the back (and 2 additional in the boot but they are a hassle to reach and reduce boot space, so pretty useless as a long term solution ) , Unlike other cars the discovery doesn’t have an isofix in the middle back seat, so actually wouldn’t really recommend it.
Also look for narrower car seats like maxi cosi tobi , that might be the key to fitting 3 in the back!

HiGunny · 16/12/2021 21:16

@Tiredmum31111 I have 3 high back boosters and they fit fine. The boot is very spacious considering the overall length of the car and the rear seats fold completely flat so it can work as a mini van too 😄

Rno3gfr · 16/12/2021 21:23

My Mil had a VW Touran. Plenty of space for 3 seats in the middle, huge boot, great to drive, plus has the option of 2 extra seats in the boot (great for carrying the kids friends when they get older).

Louisa4987 · 16/12/2021 21:29

I've got an smax for twins and a 2 year old, all in isofix seats. It never would have been a car I'd have chosen but when you need 3 seats it's pretty good really.

mishmased · 16/12/2021 21:44

Thanks @BlueCowWonders good to know!
