Anyone with a minibus in UK...

Did you get your D1?

OR

Do you have a standard car licence?

I know a woman locally with 9 children, so she transports them around on a minibus.

HarrisMcCoo · 27/10/2021 12:43

Sorry don't know her well enough to ask if you need anything extra on your licence. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that.

I considered it but insurers wanted business insurance which was costly back then. Maybe cheaper now..

Hmmm... we can manage with current set up atm but family trips are now a 2 car jobbie. Will have to ponder if it's worth it or not later, eldest turns 17 next year so may learn to drive and be off doing her own thing not long after that.

Volkswagon caravelle can seat 6 in the back, no extra licence or insurance?! Mines old but fully comp about £220 (full no claims), depends how many children you have. I've had it a very long time since mine grew too big to fit in normal car. 😳

We have a good 7 seater which is fine for me and our 6 kids, had it almost 7 years now. We did look at the multimac carseats to convert the back row.
DH was hoping to go electric for our next car if possible, that is if we can hold out for a few years.

We’ve got a 7 seater and a 9 seater. The seater is a VW Transporter. The 7 seater I use for school runs and work. Works well for us.

VainAbigail · 11/11/2021 11:59

Sorry that should say the 9 seater is a VW Transporter!

IntemperateSpirits · 11/11/2021 12:20

You can get an 8 or 9 seater ford tourneo without an minibus license. Had trouble easily getting an insurance quote for a 9 seater hut no trouble at all for an 8 seater.

Hyundai i800 8 seats x

SparklyTroll · 24/02/2022 18:32

Another vote for Hyundai i800

Pretty sure you can drive a 16 seater on a car license, so long as it's for private use and not paying customers. So a Mercedes Sprinter with seats in.

We have an 8 seater Toyota Proace Verso and it's lovely.
