How large a family do you have?

Hi all, dh and I have 4 kids together and we want to try for another but we are also worried the age gap is too big-we have a daughter just turned 11, boy and girl twins who are 8 and another nearly 5 year old daughter. Can does anyone have experience of a large family with 3/4 year age gaps? I'm 35 and dh is 36.

I have 4 - 13, 12, 8 and 4. Theres just under 4 years between 2 and 3 and just over 4 between 3 and 4. 3 and 4 are the best of friends, all of mine are close and get on really well (the majority of the time)

I have 4. 19, 10,9 and 1. I'm 41.

I'd quite liked to have filled the gap between 3 and 4 with a few more 😂

The eldest is close in a way to the others ans dotes on the baby. The middle two are very close but hormonal. The littlest is lovely.

I have 5 ages 17, 16, 13, 9 and 2. All the age gaps have plus. The less gaps are very close but the older help loads with the little ones. The worst for fighting at the minute are the 9yr and 2yr, I think that's cause 9yr was used to being youngest for so long. But actually I think its good for 9yr.

I am expecting my 7th child and I'm 42. I have 21, 18, 16,14, 10 and 8 year old already. all age gaps have pros and cons. mine are all really close most the time. I do feel like I've been doing the school run forever now though! if you still have the energy..go for it.

We have 8 (and before anyone tells me about Global warming, that includes 3 stepchildren and 3 adopted).
Ages 15, 14, 11, 10, 6, 5, 4, 2.
The dynamics are quite different as it's a blended family but, generally, they are all very close and will play together/ look after each other well.
There's a four year age gap between DD10 and DS6. At the moment, they're winding each other up but that is, in part, due to being off school too long and spending so much time around each other. They have previously got on great.

I have six, 19, 17, 14, 11, 8 and 6. All planned and very much wanted, though I was widowed 4 years ago and my God it's hard going as a single parent! I had my last 2 in my 40s so you have time yet to decide!

I have five; almost 15, 11, 8, 7 and 3. I will be stopping at that now though.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 25/09/2020 19:53

I have 6 - 19, 16, 12, 10, 5 and 3.

That's me absolutely done now, but they were great age gaps for me/us.

sunshineandshowers21 · 25/09/2020 19:58

i have four, two boys two girls - 13, 6, 22 months, and 4 months. i’m 28. me and boyfriend have said no more kids, but we’re aware that we’re still relatively young and in a few years we might change our minds and want another.

DCIRozHuntley · 25/09/2020 19:59

I think any age gap has it's advantages and challenges.

We have 4 aged 8, 6, 4 and 18 months. A 3 year age gap felt too big for me but it was the way it panned out. I don't want our eldest to be held back from doing more grown up things as a family, and evenings are filling up with basketball and gymnastics, so another one wouldn't fit in for us now.

It totally depends on your lifestyle and the temperament of your existing kids though. Also I am done so of course I find positives in our situation, if I was still yearning for another I could probably rationalise my way out of it.

Has your youngest just started school though? September often brings other big changes too which can mean we naturally look for a project to focus on... like a new baby! If so is it worth giving it a few months to see whether it's "just" feeling a bit empty-nesty?

hiredandsqueak · 25/09/2020 20:13

I have 5dc, 33,31,27,25 and 17. I would have liked one more close in age to the last because I like pairs, but it wasn't to be.
