Length of labours

Cross-posted from the childbirth page as I didn't know where to post it!

We're ttc number 4 at the moment and I'm worrying about another labour due to the speed of my previous ones. My first labour was 11.5 hours, he was back to back and forceps delivery but I had a quick first stage so doctor said it would have been quick for a first baby if he hadn't been stuck. My second labour was 1 hour 40 minutes, very straightforward but I only made it to the hospital with 20 minutes to spare as it is 30 minutes from home. With our third baby we decided on a home birth, my labour was 2 hours but the midwives didn't make it in time and the ambulance got lost so my husband delivered her. Just wondering, anyone who has had 3+ children, have your labours got quicker each time?

My labours were quick here are my times below -
1 - 3 hours
2 - 2 hours 15 mins
3 - induced - dull ache all day - once labour started 30 minutes
4 waters broke - 2 hours 30 mins

It was the induction that needed up being the quickest

2nd, 8 hours natural.
3rd, 6 hours natural.
4th, 4 hours natural (didn't even know I was in labour at rohtine examination. Was 5/6cms)

5 kiddies and very quick labours

1- 3hours34mins
2- 3 hours exactly
3- 1 hour 33mins
4- 20mins (didnt make to hospital, born into my jeans whilst in car)
5- 1 hour30 mins (home birth as worried would be mega quick again)

No pain relief with any of them, gutted slightly, fancied trying gas and air

First. -=1hour 45 mins
Second = 3 hours
Third. = 4 hours

Each one took longer than the last, first and last most painful, middle child less pain but tore. Gas and air for all.

I’ve only had one baby but labouring for 51 hours - please god let the next be shorter! Confused

EverythingNow · 09/01/2020 13:22

1st induced at 42wks - 13hrs
2nd spontaneous at 41+3 - 6hrs
3rd induced at 42wks -2hrs
4th induced at 40wks- 4hrs

I think #4 was longer than 3 because took a lot more to get me going at 40wks than 42, and I had an epidural because I had the drip. #3 I had standing up which probably helped.

  1. 8 hours
  2. 7 hours
  3. 2 hours
Had gas and air for each, all spontaneous and no tears. The hardest was the last in some ways as it was stop start for a week and then it was very intense and painful with no breaks. Good luck!!

55 hours for #1, ending in EMCS when I was all the way dilated due to him shifting in position during transition (he still has a terrible sense of direction, the sweet little thing).

I had heard so many stories of shorter labors that I was psyched going into labor with #2...only for that one to take 88 hours, though it ended in a lovely VBAC with a pushing stage of about 30 seconds.

Now pregnant with #3. Will the legend of shorter births finally come true for me, or am I looking at 120 hours of labor this time? I can hardly wait to find out!
