4 children and house size?

We have 3 atm ds 5, dd 4 and ds 5mths but considering a 4th. We have 4 bedrooms, so each have their own room, which would mean if we had another they would share. How would you split them to share if say we ended up having a girl ?
Is 4beds enough?!

At this age, the two eldest are a perfect age to share. If you’re planning on No 3 and No 4 being close together, they can also share regardless of whether they’re boys or girls, and it won’t be an issue for years yet.

A 4 bed house is more than big enough for 4 kids in my experience.

I wouldn’t worry about the sex of the children until they are much older, I would put the two who are less likely to disturb each other’s sleep together, so maybe dc1 and dc2 together for the time being and then the setup can be altered as they grow up.

Let them share in age order (older 2 and younger 2). When they get old enough then. You can think about moving people about. Perhaps get them used to rotating rooms (eg so that someone with important exams get their own room) so that they don’t get possessive and feel it is unfair?

I have 4 children aged 15, 12+, 10 & 5 my oldest 3 are girls and we live in the large 4 bedroom detached house. My 15 year old has her own room, my 12 year old has her own room and then my 10 year old girl and my son shares the bedroom. My 2nd and 3rd used to share but my son never liked to be alone so my 2nd moved into my sons room and they are happy.

The oldest can share for now but as they get older you can have boys in one room and girls in the other. the spare room could be the computer room/library, playroom or guest room for when friends or family sleep over etc.

We have three children at the moment (9, 6 and 21 months) and live in a 4 bed house and currently just started ttc. We have got a playroom downstairs so if we are lucky enough to have another baby we will convert that room into a fifth bedroom so they will have a room each.

I think it’s more a question of square footage than size. 500sqft per person is s good amount.

I have 4, girl 16, boy 14, girl 12 and girl 10.
We used to have the younger two girls sharing but bought a cube bed detached 3 years ago as I couldn’t take the arguing between the two younger ones anymore.
Life is definitely easier now they have their own rooms and I wouldn’t go back to them sharing now.

500sqft per person?!
We would have just had to stick to one! Fairly average size 4 bed detached newbuild which is around 1500sqft

We have 4 dc atm but expecting dc5 very soon

We have 5 beds. All dc currently have own rooms. Dc5 is a boy as is dc4 so they will eventually share, just under three years age gap

Dc3 is a girl. Age gap between dc3 and 5 will be 6 and a half years. Had dc5 been a girl i still would have put them in with dc4 for a while but then i would have rearranged bedrooms to give dc3 and 5 (the two girls) the biggest room and used some kind of divider to enable privacy.

Snurk to 500 square ft per person! We were 3 in 500 for a few happy years and very comfy. We did move once we were 4, but only because the right place came along.

We added a extension 6 years ago to give each of the 4DC their own bedrooms, 3 girls and a boy. The girls are so different couldn’t have imagined a combination of two sharing and one not sharing. Having their own room does not stop the squabbling!

I know several families of 4+ in 3 bed houses. Creative space use. My best friend in 1980s was eldest of 4 in a 2 bed house; boy slept in the living room & girls had a triple bunkbed.

We have 4 girls. Bought a 4 bed house with 2 double bedrooms which both had en-suites. The youngest two were sharing until 11 and 9 years, when it drove us mad with the arguments. Also, the bunk bed collapsed with the 11 year old falling onto her younger sister..and she weighs very little! So, we moved a wall, got rid of the en-suite and turned it into another bedroom. The youngest still has to walk through her sister's bedroom to get to her new room, but the arguments have almost stopped. Cost about £1,500. Far cheaper than moving!

How things change
I was one of 7 kids in a 3 bed house when I grew up. Youngest shared with Mum and Dad until he was 5 then it was 4 boys in biggest room in bunks, 3 girls in second with a bunk and single and Mum and Dad ended up in bunks in the smallest room
Things changed round again as the older ones left home.

House was probably somewhere between 500 and 1000 sq ft.

I wouldn't recommend it though

We have a 5 bedroom house but the boys (age 13 and 11) still love to share. Girls have their own bedrooms. They use our spare bedroom for sleepovers etc.

The girls at one point considered having the wall down so they could share a large bedroom. Ut now the eldest is nearly 15 I think she appreciates her own space. Dd2 is 10 and would prefer to share. When Dh is away still sneaks in my bed 😂
