Is 4 a better number than 3?

I have 3 kids aged 5, 3 and 1. Lately a lot of people have been saying 3 is a dangerous number because 1 child always ends up feeling left out. I would hate for my kids to feel that way! I have 2 sisters myself and am definitely closer to 1 and my other sister feels left out, but we don't do it purposely - we are just closer in age.
So just asking for your thoughts on this please?

I think it completely depends on the family. They may all be close they may all hate each other.
In an overpopulated world that's an awful reason to have another child.

Who says it? People who actually have 3 children, or just random people who aren't qualified to comment?

There really isn't really one rule of thumb! For every 10 people with 3 children who say that all 3 are really close, there'll be 10 who say that 1 is always left out.

Some people have 4 (3 of one sex and 1 of another) and find that one is left out.
